The Pathways App started in a 2022 as Quality Improvement (QI) project and has since evolved into a collaborative tool used by staff and patients to assist in planning and monitoring recovery goals post-admission to forensic mental health services.

The app is now being used for all new admissions within the John Howard Centre, a Medium Secure Forensic Mental Health Hospital in East London, UK. The app uses accessible language and display tailored to patients needs i.e. use of easy-read toggle button, customisable visuals to aid understanding and everything is printable.

The project so far has shown positive results in patient outcomes relating to:

• Patients feeling involved in decisions around their care
• Understanding their pathway
• Feeling confident in their pathway
• Clarity of staff communication
• Patients feeling stuck in hospital
